Adult R.E.A.D. Program

Can you imagine what life would be like if you could not read your mail or medication instructions? What if you couldn't write a check or read a restaurant menu? What if you had difficulty following street signs or getting a good paying job because you didn't have sufficient reading skills? This is a reality for approximately 5,000 Manitowoc County residents.

You can help change this situation for an adult in your community. Volunteers with an interest in literacy are being sought to work with English-speaking adults needing extra help learning to read or write.

Become a Literacy Tutor

Volunteers are trained to work one-on-one with English-speaking adults who struggle with reading, writing and spelling. Training and mentoring will be provided for the volunteer tutors as they take on the commitment of building a tutoring relationship with another adult. Volunteers must be able to spend at least two hours per week tutoring the adult they are matched with.

What a great way to help open the doors to literacy for people so that they have the tools they need to reach their goals in a literate world.
