Quality, trust key in health care choices

Finding a health care network and doctor you trust is an important part of keeping you and your family healthy.

Health care can be confusing these days when trying to determine where to go or which doctor to see. A recent study indicated the majority of people often struggle with selecting a health care provider or network to partner with. And make no mistake, it’s one of the most important decisions we make.

Caring for ourselves and our family’s personal health is second to none on the priority list.

In choosing a health care network, two factors should be considered: quality and trust.

Regarding quality, many ways exist to assure you choose a top-notch quality provider. First, take note of what you see and hear related to national quality awards and recognition. They matter greatly, because the places that give these awards are reviewing dozens of quality indicators and outcomes when they select award winners. Much like winning a prize at the county fair for being the best, these medical awards are the same.

Quality is also evaluated by reports from reputable agencies that do deep analyses on health care outcomes, with the intention of sharing the reports with those who choose insurance plans, such as employers and insurance brokers. Because they’re recommending health care networks for large groups of people, they rely on quality reports to guide their decision-making.

For instance, a recent report from BSG Analytics, LLC, rated health systems on quality and efficiency of care for commercial payers. Many factors were considered, including medical outcomes and resources spent to achieve those outcomes.

You should be happy to know that when evaluating health care in northeastern Wisconsin, Holy Family Memorial was rated as being the most efficient network with top-tier quality.

Knowing information like this creates trust, the other essential factor in choosing a health care network. You must trust your doctor and hospital to do the right thing for you, always.

Trust is earned by knowing you can count on top-quality and efficient care and by the feeling that comes when you know your network cares about you, is reliable, and will be there when you need them.

We are fortunate to have outstanding, nationally-recognized health care right here in our community. When making your health care decisions, choose wisely and remember to focus on quality and trust. You won’t go wrong.
