Orthopaedic Surgery is a field that is undergoing rapid evolution with exciting technological and surgical advances taking place every year. Nationwide there has been strong emphasis on subspecialization within orthopaedics, as the field is far too broad for any one individual to be competent in all specialty areas.
Our surgeons are fellowship-trained subspecialists and have completed their training at some of the most prestigious institutions in the country. This ensures you will receive the quality care you deserve from a subspecialist who is proficient in all of the current state-of-the-art treatment options. This is evidenced by the fact that patients come to Lakeshore Orthopaedics from various locations across Northeast Wisconsin, including Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Green Bay, Appleton, Marinette, Fond du Lac, Minocqua, and Rhinelander. Lakeshore Orthopaedics is recognized as "The Leader in Specialized Orthopaedic Care" not only by patients, but also by other practicing orthopaedic surgeons throughout the state.
Below is a list of our areas of expertise. If you would like additional information, please feel free to contact us by calling any of our locations.

Hand and Wrist
Our hands are a crucial connection to the world around us. They allow us to work, play, and interact on a daily basis. The use of our hands is often taken for granted until a problem arises. Injury and pain can lead to time off work, avoidance of painful activities, and significant stress. Dr. David Mikolyzk is the only fellowship-trained orthopaedic hand surgeon in the Lakeshore area. He has trained with some of the best hand surgeons in the world. As the founder of The Hand and Wrist Clinic at Lakeshore Orthopaedics, Dr. Mikolyzk is proficient in treating all types of hand and wrist problems.
Hip & Knee Replacement
The surgeons of Lakeshore Orthopaedics have been successfully performing joint replacement surgery for many years. However, with the addition of Dr. Kirk Dimitris to our group, we have taken services to the next level. Dr. Dimitris is the only fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon in Manitowoc county. He specializes in the comprehensive treatment of hip and knee arthritis, including both conservative and surgical care. Dr. Dimitris performs minimally invasive and muscle sparing procedures for hip and knee replacement. He also performs the gender specific knee, or "female knee", when the indications are appropriate. Dr. Dimitris has extensive training in computer-assisted knee replacement surgery, as well as hip resurfacing procedures. He also has significant experience in complex revision surgeries, management of periprosthetic fractures, and treatment of infected total joint prostheses.
The shoulder is considered by many to be one of the most complex joints in the body. Regardless of patient age or activity level, persistent shoulder pain that adversely affects an individual's quality of life should be evaluated by an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the shoulder. Dr. Ryan Dopirak is a fellowship-trained specialist in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. He is nationally recognized for his knowledge and expertise pertaining to the shoulder, as is evidenced by his numerous faculty appointments and publications. Dr. Dopirak recently established "The Shoulder Clinic" at Lakeshore Orthopaedics, which is one of the only specialty clinics in Wisconsin devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of complex shoulder problems.
Lakeshore Orthopaedics offers a comprehensive program for patients with disorders of the back or neck. The initial treatment for most spinal disorders is almost always nonoperative. When conservative measures fail to provide symptomatic relief, surgery may be considered. We routinely treat patients for pinched nerves, disk degeneration, and vertebral fractures, with a particular interest in neck problems.
The sports medicine physicians at Lakeshore Orthopaedics offer comprehensive care to athletes of all ages and activity levels. Whether you are a competitive athlete or just a weekend warrior, our goal is to help you return to an active, healthy lifestyle. The most common sports related injuries often involve the knee, such as tears of the meniscus or knee ligaments. However, we provide care for a wide variety of athletic injuries, including disorders of the ankle, hip, hand, elbow, shoulder, and spine. Our physicians have trained at some of the most respected programs in the nation and have extensive experience in caring for high school, college, and professional athletes. We currently serve as team physicians for several area high schools and colleges.
