Quality and Patient Safety Recognized
Holy Family Memorial, Manitowoc, was recently named one of health care’s Most Wired hospitals, according to a survey recently conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine.
Winning hospitals are selected based on progress in adoption, implementation and use of information technology in four areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety (hospital inpatient/outpatient) and clinical integration (ambulatory/physician/community). Organizations, like HFM, who reflect core development across all four focus areas receive the title of Most Wired.
Holy Family Memorial received the award in recognition of their accomplishments in information technology as it relates to patient care, especially for their electronic medical record (EMR). An electronic medical record ensures patient safety and quality of care, by allowing providers to access the same current and accurate medical record at all points of care. It allows for immediate, on-site patient assessment across their entire clinical experience, making medical decision making and treatment as timely and effective as they can possibly be.
“Our integrated hospital and clinic EMR is vital to our success in fulfilling our Mission, which is to help individuals and our community achieve healthier lives,” said Dr. Steve Driggers, Holy Family Memorial Vice President of Quality and Information Systems and Chief Medical Officer. “All of our clinics have direct access to our EMR. This structure and process makes care transitions nearly seamless and assures excellent quality and patient safety in our daily activities.”

HFM also recently started “myHealth” an online patient portal which allows patients to access and manage their healthcare information easily and securely. Using the patient portal, HFM patients are able to:
- See visit history and discharge information
- View and request appointments
- Pre-register for scheduled appointments
- Request prescription renewals
- Review lab results
- Securely message with their healthcare provider
