There are many reasons to want to lose weight—from improving your health and fitness, to keeping up with your kids and grandkids, to preventing chronic health conditions. No matter reason—we can help!

The HFM Why Weight Program can help you lose weight and reduce your chance of getting type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions.

How do I know if this program is for me?

  • Are you an adult who is overweight?
  • Do you have a family history of diabetes?
  • Have you ever been told by a health care professional that you have prediabetes, borderline diabetes, high blood sugar, or had gestational diabetes while pregnant?

What do I need to know about this program?

It works! The program is proven to help people lose weight and lower their risk of type 2 diabetes by 58% You will learn ways to change your lifestyle to improve your health with the help of a lifestyle coach and supportive classmates who are going through the same challenges as you.

The HFM Why Weight Program utilizes the National Diabetes Prevention Program, an evidence-based weight loss program. Within the Why Weight Program, there are two program tracks you can choose from depending on your need or lifestyle.

Why Weight meets for one year. You will meet with a lifestyle coach in a weekly group session for 16 weeks, then monthly thereafter. During each session, your lifestyle coach will cover a topic that will help you learn how to incorporate healthy eating choices and physical activity into your life.

Why Weight Plus follows the same format as the standard Why Weight program, but also includes a fitness component. The group will meet twice per week - one session with a lifestyle coach and another session with an exercise instructor to introduce exercise into your regular routine. The Why Weight Plus program also includes a three-month membership to the HFM Wellness Center.

Mondays and Wednesdays • 8-9 a.m.

Beginning January 15

Monday classes will be classroom education. 
Exercise classes are Wednesdays, starting February 14.

The session is held in the Coopertown Room at HFM Harbor Town Campus, 1650 41st Street, Manitowoc. Cost is $250 for HFM Wellness Center members; $350 for guests. Call the HFM Wellness Center at (920) 320-4600 to register.
