Lung Disease

Traditionally, lung disease has commonly been associated with work environments in the automotive production, mining, and nuclear industries, but machinists, farmers, bird fanciers, flock workers, carpenters, construction workers,  textile workers, and gun hobbyists who make their own ammunitions may all be exposed to atmospheres where  lung diseases can be contracted and/or exacerbated.

The biggest obstacles to treatment are:

      • recognition of the problem
      • reluctance to seek medical care
      • misdiagnosis
A chest x ray and lung function studies are initial diagnostic evaluations in most cases.

Lung function measures:
  • the amount of air breathed in and out
  • the speed it moves
  • the effectiveness of oxygen exchange with the blood
At Holy Family Memorial, upon referral by a physician, chest X Ray and lung function testing could be done.
