Rehab Plus Provides New Treatment
Several HFM Rehab Plus therapists have achieved certification in leading-edge treatment called ASTYM, a non-invasive therapy that works fast and consistently to heal a variety of musculoskeletal diagnoses and pain issues, including post-op/post injury scar tissue. This treatment assists in healing and pain reduction of muscles, tendons and ligaments.
HFM therapists Stacia Schmidt, DPT; Dawn Redwine, PT; Paula Cayemberg, PT; Rachel Speel, DPT; John Woodcock, PTA; Chloe Reimes, PTA; and Tonee Hacker, COTA; are all ASTYM certified, joining a nationwide network of rehab professionals qualified to perform this effective treatment.
The ASTYM system uses hand held plastic instruments to decrease tightness and mobilize scar tissue in order to stimulate the body's natural healing process. A therapist moves the instruments firmly along the patient's skin in very particular directions. This helps the therapist recognize the dysfunctional soft tissue and ultimately help those areas heal.
A typical course of treatment lasts up to four to six weeks, with patients expected to carry out a customized program of stretching and exercise at home to maximize treatment results. Some commonly treated conditions include chronic ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, rotator cuff tendonitis, shoulder pain, hip bursitis, hamstring strains and tennis elbow.
