Program Reduces Knee Injuries
There are 250,000 ACL knee injuries in the US each year, and the majority are in athletes under the age of 25. So what can you do to reduce your risk? Holy Family Memorial now offers a knee injury prevention program for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
Called Sportsmetrics™, it is a scientifically proven, six-week jump-training program that incorporates proper stretching, special exercises and weight training. Participants focus on developing overall leg strength as well as improving balance in strength from the front to the back of the thigh.
HFM is a Certified Clinical Site for program, which is offered through HFM Wellness Center and HFM Sports Medicine in conjunction with the Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center’s nationally acclaimed Sportsmetrics™ program. Research conducted by Cincinnati SportsMedicine Research and Education Foundation has proven that athletes who participate in this jumping program are less like to suffer a serious knee injury.
The program has also been proven to enhance athletic performance, increasing vertical jump height; improving hamstring and quadricep strength and improving landing mechanics and reducing side-to-side movements at the knee.
HFM’s six-week Sportsmetrics prevention program meets three times a week, plus one pre-a and post-test, for a total of 20 visits. Sessions are held at the HFM Wellness Center and taught by a certified Sportsmetrics trainer. The next session begins March 4.
Cost is $180, which includes 20 total sessions. To register or for details, call the HFM Wellness Center at 320-4600 or visit www.hfmhealth.org/sportsmetrics
