Cardiologist to Hold HealthTalk
A cardiologist new to the Manitowoc area is passionate about the role foods, oils and vitamins play in taking care of the heart and vascular system.

“Many people take vitamins to keep their bodies healthy but sometimes too much of a good thing can have a negative effect on us,” said Dr. Charles Laham. “It’s important to know what supplements are potentially helpful and which may adversely affect a heart condition and/or interact with cardiac medications in an unsafe manner. In regard to oils … although many are bad for you, your body needs fats and there are good ones out there.”

Dr. Laham, who has trained and taught with Mayo Health Systems, will present his first talk in Manitowoc called Vitamins, Oils and Your Heart on Tuesday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, 2300 Western Avenue.

Dr. Laham has extensive experience in the field of cardiology and interventional cardiology and is actively publishing state-of-the-art cardiac research. He joined the HFM Heart & Vascular Center earlier this spring and was most recently Director of Cardiology at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In addition to two full fellowships, he received specialized training in echocardiography and interventional cardiology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN, and served as an instructor at Mayo Health Systems in La Crosse, WI. He received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada.
