Cath Lab Receives Upgrade

Manitowoc, WI – The cardiac and vascular catheterization X-ray imaging system at Holy Family Memorial recently underwent a radical but invisible change. The equipment, used to visualize arteries by interventional cardiologists treating blockages and opening them with cardiac stents, has been upgraded with a new revolutionary system that cuts radiation exposure to the patient by 73% while maintaining the image. The system, called the ClarityIQ, was created by the internationally renowned Philips Healthcare Company and received FDA approval just this past summer. More than 200 of the units have been used outside of the United States since 2012.

The system is the industry leader in quality. Medical director of HFM’s Cardiac and Vascular Catheterization Lab, Dr. Michael Rosenberg, was impressed with the quality of the new system, “Having used the new system since the installation, I can say I’m impressed with the quality of the images and pleased to tell patients of the new low dose of radiation they are experiencing. Improvements in imaging equipment have come about due to increased computer power and innovative research. The impressive new system is able to adjust in real time to the depth and area of anatomy being viewed. The amount of radiation the body is exposed to is required by national standards to be limited per procedure and now due to the very lose dose of radiation with the new imaging system, longer procedures will be possible. This will be beneficial to high risk patients and those needing extensive procedures.
