HFM launches community-wide step challenge.

Holy Family Memorial invites Manitowoc County organizations to participate in Move Manitowoc—a community step challenge to improve employee health and raise money for a good cause. The month-long challenge runs during May Global Health & Fitness Month with each team competing to achieve the highest average daily steps.

“Move Manitowoc is a great opportunity for local organizations to invest in their employees’ health while raising money for a good cause,” says Brett Norell, President and CEO at HFM. “It’s a month-long challenge that we hope leads to lasting improvements in our community’s health.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends individuals get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week. Striving for 10,000 steps a day can help individuals reduce their risk for chronic health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.

“People spend a good portion of their time at work so it’s important for employers to promote and encourage healthy habits in the workplace,” says Norell. “Incorporating more movement at work can have a positive impact on employees’ health, energy levels, efficiency and engagement. And employers can also expect more productive and happier employees.”

Organizations can register a team March 1 through April 15 at hfmhealth.org/MoveManitowoc. Each team donates $250 to enter the challenge. All proceeds from the challenge will be donated to the winning team’s local non-profit of choice. Fitness tracker devices from Fitbit, Garmin and Apple will be used to track team steps.

Move Manitowoc is a collaboration between Holy Family Memorial, Forsite Benefits & Wellness and Motion Connected.
