Holy Family Memorial is now offering COVID-19 antibody testing through its Direct Access Lab Testing service. The COVID-19 antibody test will let individuals know whether they have recently been infected with coronavirus and if their body has reacted to it.
“When someone is infected with a virus, their body reacts by making antibodies which are blood proteins that fight illness,” explains Pete Kracaw, manager of HFM Laboratory. “An antibody test, also known as a serology test, will look at an individual’s blood to see if antibodies can be found.” A positive result does not, however, indicate immunity.
The test costs $100 and is available for adults and pediatric patients, regardless if they are an established HFM patient. To schedule a COVID-19 antibody test, individuals should call HFM Direct Access Lab Testing at (920) 320-6777 to make an appointment at one of the following convenient locations:
- HFM Medical Center, 2300 Western Avenue, Manitowoc; hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- HFM Harbor Town Campus, 1650 S. 41st Street, Manitowoc; hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.
- HFM Lakefront Campus, 800 Lakefront Way, Two Rivers; hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
COVID-19 antibody test results will be mailed to patients and uploaded to their online My HFM Record.
Kracaw says the antibody test is not a COVID-19 test. Individuals experiencing any COVID-19 or respiratory symptoms should call the HFM Infectious Disease hotline at (920) 320-3333 to schedule a COVID-19 test.
