2014 Karen Kvalo Deehr Healthcare Scholarship Awarded
Megan Markowski, of Holy Family Memorial’s medical/surgical department was recently awarded HFM’s 2014 Karen Kvalo Deehr Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was created by the Deehr family, including retired Judge Allan Deehr and Karen’s parents, Arnold and Harriet Kvalo.
Markowski’s healthcare career began in 2011 as a therapy services aide at HFM. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Lakeshore Technical College, and accepted a position on our medical/surgical Department in 2013. She is currently pursuing her BSN degree through the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
The Deehr family established the scholarship to give healthcare workers, with a high regard for education, the opportunity to expand their knowledge as Karen Deehr did. Deehr had earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration one month prior to her death. Deehr was director of Holy Family Memorial’s Home Health Department.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a student pursuing a degree in a health-related field and employed by Holy Family Memorial or any of its affiliates.
