Fitness Assessment

Body Size and Composition Tests

These assessments measure the size, shape and composition of your body. You will learn important health information, such as body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratios and more.

Body Fat Calipers

Body composition is measured with a tool that helps calculate your body fat percentage. If retesting, schedule with the same trainer to ensure accurate results.

Measurements

Body measurements are taken to track overall inches lost or gained.

Muscular Fitness Tests

We measure your endurance and ability to perform repetitive activity to determine muscle fatigue.

Farmer Carry Test

We calculate your grip and stamina with a test that includes carrying a weight in each hand for as long as you are able.

Vertical Jump

This test measures how high you can jump to identify lower-limb strength, calculating muscular strength and anaerobic posture. While the test is typically provided for athletes, anyone may take the vertical jump test.

Strength and Endurance Testing

These tests measure muscular strength and endurance. They help you understand your body’s ability to carry out daily activities and how to gradually increase your abilities without strain and exhaustion.

Push-up Test

The push-up fitness test measures upper body strength and endurance. There are many guidelines for the push-up test: placement of the hands, how far to dip, the duration of the test and the method of counting the number of completed push-ups.

Biceps

This test measures your upper body strength by having you complete as many curls as you can in 60 seconds while fully bending and fully straightening your with arms at the elbow.

Squats

Squats measure lower body strength. Squats involve standing in front of a chair or bench with your feet shoulder’s width apart, facing away from it. Place your hands on your hips. Squat down and lightly touch the chair before standing back up. Use a chair that allows your knees to bend at right angles when you are sitting. Keep squatting until you are fatigued.

Overhead Squats

Overhead squats are used to assess muscle imbalances or compensation during a movement pattern. With your arms extended over your head, you will squat five to 10 times. You will repeat overhead squats with your trainer, who will observe for balance or movement issues.

Cardio Endurance

These tests measure your cardiac fitness. Our goal is to determine a fitness level that allows you to help reduce muscle and body aches.

Six Minute Walk Test

Walk for six minutes on our track. We will time you moving at your own pace.

Cardio Treadmill Test

We monitor your heart rate while you walk or run. Different speeds and inclines will be used to help increase your heart rate while respecting your cardio level. Your maximal oxygen consumption will be estimated.

Step Test

Step on and off a 12-inch bench moving at the same pace for three minutes. Your general fitness will be calculated by how quickly your heart rate recovers for your age.

See the Wellness Center staff for more details on any of these assessments.

My story

I believe in training all components of physical fitness in every session, including balance. My passion is seeing each of my clients excel in accomplishing their goals, and ultimately leading healthier lives. I work closely with the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine program teaching classes in Parkinson’s, a prediabetes prevention and weight loss class called Why Weight and an ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation program called Sportsmetrics. I also enjoy working with clients to progress their rehabilitation to fully restore their range of motion and get them functioning at their optimal ability leading to better quality of life. In addition to working with chronic conditions, I also work with athletes to improve their athletic performance and clients working toward weight loss, as well as those simply taking their training to the next level.

Education

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise and Fitness. I’m certified through the American College of Sports Medicine as a certified exercise physiologist. I hold certifications in group exercise, TRX, Pilates reformer, Sportsmetrics and Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT), a non-invasive approach to restoring ability for the following conditions: muscular weakness or tightness, limitations in motion or flexibility, impaired performance and injury or pain in muscles and/or joints. And I’m also a certified lifestyle coach through the CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program.
